Pakistan: U.S. Strike Is Said to Kill Taliban Militants

At least 16 suspected Taliban insurgents were killed in a flurry of strikes by American drone-launched missiles in the northwestern tribal region of South Waziristan, officials and local news media reported on Wednesday. The rugged, mountainous region has been a stronghold of Taliban insurgents and the Mehsud tribe. The drone strike followed a missile attack hours earlier on Taliban militants in neighboring North Waziristan. At least six local fighters were killed, officials said.
